In just a few years after the roads construction, it started getting a bad reputation, as criminals dumped dead bodies beside the road. So in April 2023 the police installed cameras along the road to deter criminals from operating in the area.[1]
This project was the initial construction of the John Smith Road. It consisted of 2 roundabouts, one on each end, a high level bridge over the Waterway 20, 5 miles of chipseal pavement and 2 concrete water overflows.[2]
The project was funded by OPEC and Taiwan and constructed by CISCO Construction for $33 million.[3] It was inaugurated on September 24, 2020.[2]
The John Smith Road is named after the first leader of the PUP Party, Johnny Smith.[3] The road was called Airport Link Road during construction and was named John Smith at the inauguration.
