History

The Belize-Hector Creek Road was constructed over the Sibun Swamp, shortening the distance to El Cayo Town by 12 miles and was expected to be completed by 1949. By 1948 90% of the earthworks had been completed and 5 miles had been upgraded to a bituminous surface.[1]

In 1950 a toll booth was erected on the Burdon Canal Bridge, as well as quarters for the toll keeper.[2]

Later the road was merged with the Road 232 into the Western Highway, probably in the 1980s, though this is all just speculation.
