History

As Belize moved forward to self governance in 1960, the large landowners began to pressure all their land tenants that they considered PUP supporters.

There were many families that had been removed from Baking Pot Village and settled at a place called, Baccadier, in the New Haven Estate.

Then in early 1960, a three months notice of eviction began to be issued to hundreds of villagers all over the country.

When these people from Baccadier received the notice to evacuate, they came to Hector David Silva's office at the El Cayo Town Board. He contacted Hon. George Price, who told him to gather the people for a public meeting. Hon. George Price came and told them, "Do not move, we will acquire these lands as soon as we win the elections".

In 1961 the PUP won all 18 Constituencies. They bought the land and the people named their village "George Ville" as a thank you to the Hon. George Cadle Price. [1]
