In 1945 Los Tambos was known as Santa Teresa Camp.[1] By 1980 Los Tambos was known as Tambos Camp.[2] Then by 1991 it was finally known as Los Tambos.[3] According to a local, when the current residents first came to settle in the area they wanted to name the village 'something', but then they found a couple of drums where they wanted to build the school, so they named it Los Tambos.[4]
In 2007 it was planned to construct a power line to Los Tambos, but there were difficulties routing the line around Spanish Lookout.
Then in 2017 as part of Belize Electricity Ltd's System Expansion Program, Los Tambos finally received electricity for the first time. This power line was constructed to internationally approved National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards.[5]
