San Marcos slowly evolved during the early 2000s and by 2010 it was included in the census for the first time.
In 2007 it was planned to construct a power line to San Marcos, but there were difficulties routing the line around Spanish Lookout.
Then in 2017 as part of Belize Electricity Ltd's System Expansion Program, San Marcos finally received electricity for the first time. This power line was constructed to internationally approved National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards.[1]
