The west trail was Puhui Road and the eastern trail was Jumby Road.\n\nOn May 6, 1963, a meeting was held to discuss the future development of the northern end of the colony. Land Committee Leader David J. Thiessen presented the proposed plan, and the landowners were asked to vote in favor or against it.\n\nThe proposal was to divide the land into smaller lots and create two roads running north, parallel to the colony borders.\n\nThe majority of landowners rejected this plan and instead requested that the two northbound roads be located half a mile east and half a mile west of the center of the colony.\n\nThe group was then asked whether the lots should run parallel to the colony border or be aligned in cardinal directions (north-south and east-west). They voted to align the lots cardinally.\u003Cref>SLC Monthly Meeting 1963-05-06\u003C/ref>\n\nAt the monthly meeting on August 28, 1965, it was discussed whether people who did not own land in the South would pay less tax if they moved up North.\u003Cref>SLC Monthly Meeting Minutes 1965-08-28\u003C/ref>\n\nOn June 28, 1969, a discussion was held about making a village behind the Bajo. A road needed to be opened to the location of the village. The land parcels needed to be rotated so they touched the roads better.\u003Cref>SLC Monthly Meeting Minutes 1969-06-28\u003C/ref>\n\nOn March 28, 2026, a 50th Anniversary event was held to commemorate the first settlers settling in the Edental area. An Edental welcome sign was constructed prior to this event.\u003Cref>Personal knowledge\u003C/ref>\n\n## Boundaries\nInitially Edental only reached as far as the then northern [[settlement:295]] border which was a diagonal line that more or less followed [[waterway:48]]. The southern border was not clearly defined at that time, but in general, anything past Country Meats was called \"hinter den Bajo\". Later when [[settlement:367]] was purchased, some people settled in [[settlement:367]], between Black Creek and [[waterway:48]]. This area is sometimes referred to as Twin Creek. In 2020 when the district boundaries were finally drawn, Twin Creek was included as part of Edental, although it is part of [[settlement:367]] and not Spanish Lookout Proper.\n\n## Etymology\nEdental and [[settlement:364]] were referred to in the local Low German dialect as “hinter dem Bajo” or “hinja’m Bajo”, meaning “behind the Bajo”. And Bajo meant \"low bushland\".\n\nThis name was in common use since the early 1960s. The steady growth in population in the [[settlement:364]] and Edental and the district boundaries being officially drawn in 2020 contributed to the decline of the name, as “behind the Bajo” no longer carried the same practical meaning it once had.\n\nOn March 27, 1976 a meeting was held to decide on the name for the area to the north. Leonard M Reimer suggested Edental. As no one else that lived in the area had any other suggestions, the name Edental was chosen.\u003Cref>SLC Monthly Meeting 1976-03-27\u003C/ref>\n\n## Infrastructure\n**Electricity**\n\nAt the Annual General Meeting of 1987, the possibliity of constructing a Hydro dam on [[waterway:30]] was discussed. Western Dairies, the community energy provider at the time, was asked to look into it.\u003Cref>SLC Monthly Meeting Minutes 1987-01-24\u003C/ref>\n\n**Roads**\n\nIn 1966, 5 miles of road were constructed towards the Bajo as Edental was called back then.\u003Cref>SLC Monthly Meeting Minutes 1966-10-29\u003C/ref>\n\nIn December 1973, the Bush Committee decided to spend $12,000 on roads behind the Bajo. Also the Jumby Road was to be surfaced in caliche up to the Jumby Road Caliche Pit.\u003Cref>SLC Monthly Meeting Minutes 1973-12-29\u003C/ref>\n\nIn 1975, it was decided that when the Colony opened roads behind Bajo, then the logs would be Colony logs.\u003Cref>SLC Monthly Meeting Minutes 1975-04-26\u003C/ref>\n\nIn January of 1977 the Jumby Road was to be fully surfaced with caliche.\u003Cref>SLC Monthly Meeting Minutes 1977-01-29\u003C/ref> By April, 70th Street was constructed from the end of Jumby Road to Emerald Lane. The road was not built straight, so the land owners were compensated for their land.\u003Cref>SLC Monthly Meeting Minutes 1977-04-02\u003C/ref> Then at a meeting on May 7, 1977 it was decided where the current 774 St and Euphrates Drive would be constructed as they didn't line up with the mile lines.\u003Cref>SLC Monthly Meeting Minutes 1977-05-07\u003C/ref> At the same meeting they decided to push open 80th St from First Ave to Euphrates Drive.\n\n# Social Services\n## Education\n**Edental School 1.0**\n\nIn 1983 shutters were installed on the east side of the school building.\nIn 1987 Edental announced they wanted to move the school to a new location. Their new location would be where the Edental Church now stands.\u003Cref>SLC Monthly Meeting 1987-04-25\u003C/ref>\n\n**Palm Hill School**\n\nIn October 1987 the Colony sent their bulldozer and flattened the new school yard. In 1988 the Edental School was moved onto the Edental Church yard. Sometime around 2014 the schools were moved a couple hundred feet further south onto it's own yard and renamed to Edental School again. \n\n**Steinberg School**\n\nIn 1995 a second school lot was purchased from Larry Reimer for $2,000.00 and the top of the hill was leveled out.\u003Cref>SLC Monthly Meeting 1995-09-30\u003C/ref> This school was shut down sometime around 2003.\n\n**Twin Creek School**\n\nIn 2017 one building was moved to Edental School. In 2018 the school had it's last school term. In 2019 the last building was moved to Edental School.\n\n**Edental School 2.0**\n\nSometime around 2014 the 2 school buildings from Palm Hill School were moved to this location. In 2017 a third building was relocated here from Twin Creek School and in 2019 a fourth building was moved here from Twin Creek as
