Los Lagos was created as a low and middle income housing project[1] by the Development Finance Corporation (DFC) that opened on January 8, 2000. By the time of the opening date 40 houses had been constructed and another 90 were under construction. And 8 persons had keys to their homes.[2]
The housing project was created to alleviate a housing shortage in Belize City.
Los Lagos is considered a part of the greater Ladyville metro area and it's population census is counted as part of Ladyville.
By 2009 the streets started crumbling into disrepair and by 2016 residents were desperate for something to be done.[1]
