History

A large hurricane shelter was constructed in 1963. [1]

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Development constructed a groyne and sand dunes to protect the Palapa Garden Area from storms in 2023.[2]

Disasters

November 8, 1942 a hurricane hit Caye Caulker and split the island in two. The inhabitants had enough warning to cross over to the mainland to safety.[3]

Police

In 1949 the police force consisted of 1 officer.[4]

The Government of Belize signed a contract with Coleman Construction Limited on January 13, 2025 for the construction of a $1.5 million police substation for Caye Caulker.[5]
