A large hurricane shelter was constructed in 1963. [1]
The first plumbing system on the island happened in 1972 by the locals.[2]
The first telephone line to Caye Caulker was laid on the seabed in 1973.[2]
The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Development constructed a groyne and sand dunes to protect the Palapa Garden Area from storms in 2023.[3]
November 8, 1942 a hurricane hit Caye Caulker and split the island in two. The inhabitants had enough warning to cross over to the mainland to safety.[4]
The Catholic School had 66 students in 1927 and 71 in 1928.[5][6]
In 1925 the Catholics called the island Cayo Icaco.[7]
In 1949 the police force consisted of 1 officer.[8]
The Government of Belize signed a contract with Coleman Construction Limited on January 13, 2025 for the construction of a $1.5 million police substation for Caye Caulker.[9]
From at least 1917[10] to 1928[6] Caye Caulker had a catholic mission under the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, from Settlement 12.
The Caye Caulker SDA Church is under the Central Belize Mission Conference (Settlement 12) in the Belize Union Mission (Settlement 12) of the Inter-American Division (Miami, Florida) of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Between 2020-2025 they had 18 members.[11]
