Bakers was a village in the Belize District close to where Sand Hill stands today. It was situated on the Double Run Estate and the Bakers Works Estate.
Bakers was established sometime before 1841. Most travel to and from Bakers was done by boat along the Belize River.
Bakers was entirely destroyed in the Hurricane of 1931, which happened on September 10, and was never rebuilt.[1]
A telegraph line from Belize Town to Orange Walk Town passed through Bakers, while another line extended from Bakers to Hill Bank.[2] This line was probably constructed in the 1880s when most telegraph lines were constructed and was destroyed in the Hurricane of 1931.
The unpaved Belize-Corozal Road passed through Bakers from as early as 1921 and was later upgraded to a paved highway after Bakers was destroyed.[3]
A Baptist chapel was erected in 1841.[1]
On March 25, 1882, John Fred Sheran of Jamaica was married to Alexandrina Lavinia, second daughter of George Tillett, Esq., of Bakers by Reverend John Jackson.[4]
The chapel was destroyed by the 1931 Hurricane and never rebuilt.[1]
