In 1857 Superintendent Seymour reported that an estimated 3,000 Chichanhá Mayas had crossed into BH “with a view to a cultivation of the soil, contemplating permanent settlement.”

These were likely the San Pedro Maya who, desirous to escape conflict with the rebels, broke with Zuc’s Chichanhá Maya and relocated to San Pedro Siris in western Belize. Zuc’s remaining followers migrated closer to the Río Hondo in 1863, settling at a place called Icaiche.
