In 1888 the colonial government proposed establishing 3 Indian reservations with the northern one in the area where Copper Bank is today.[1]
The site of this village is believed to have been the location of a lost Mayan town, Uatibal. A few Mayan artifacts have been found here.
Up until the early 2000s the only access to Copper Bank was by boat.
In 1980 this village was known as San Fernando, but by the 2000s it was called Copper Bank. Maybe it changed name during independence as some other villages did?
