A road existed from the Settlement 415 to Settlement 202 in 1885.[1]
The Punta Gorda-San Antonio Road was surveyed in 1930[2] and construction started in 1938. By the end of the year 17 miles had been constructed.[3] The road used to go from Punta Gorda Town to Settlement 224 before the eastern section was merged into the Southern Highway, probably sometime in the 1980s. The western section of the road became the San Antonio Road.
In 2012 the San Antonio Road was upgraded to a two lane bituminous highway.
