The Stann Creek Railroad fell out of use, so they started replacing the railroad with a road. By 1938 6 miles of road had been completed.[1]
In 1950 a 75 ft timber bridge was constructed at Middlesex after a flood washed away the previous bridge.[2]
Later when the Hummingbird Highway was constructed it absorbed the Stann Creek Valley Road, even though locals still referred to it as the Stann Creek Valley Road in 2025.[3]
