The Belize-Cayo Road construction started in the 1930s and was expected to be completed by 1949.[1]
In 1931 and before, the road existed as a horse track for pack mules and was impassable by vehicles.[2] In 1914 two bridges were constructed at Roaring Creek and at Teakettle Creek.[3]
Later the road was merged with Hector Creek Road into the Western Highway, probably in the 1980s, though this is all just speculation.
