The Corozal-Sarteneja Road was formed in November 2018 when the upgrading of the Corozal-Sarteneja Road Project was initiated by cobbling together the Tony's - New River Road, a section of the Progresso - Copper Bank Road, a section of the Lowrys Bight - Laguna Seca Road and then most of the Road 95.

The Corozal to Sarteneja Road Upgrading Project (42.3 km) was funded via a loan provided by Export-Import Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The GOBZ single sourced and signed a contract with Oversees Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd (OECC) S.A. to carry out a design and build project.

The Contract was signed on November 2018^[1] for upgrading of 27 miles of the Corozal Sarteneja Road. This road project also involves construction of the Laguna Seca Bridge and the Pueblo Viejo Bridge which replaced the old, dilapidated ferries at Pueblo Viejo and Laguna Seca.

The project was broken into three components:

• Design of Corozal to Sarteneja Road valued at USD $1,500,000.00
• Corozal to Sarteneja Road Upgrading valued at USD $43,500,000.00
• Supervision of Corozal to Sarteneja Road Upgrading Project valued at USD $3,500,000.00

By 2024 61% of the project had been completed.^[2]
