By 1949 a village had grown around the saw mills at Mango Creek.[1]
In 1963 tenders were given out for the construction of an Administrative Building in Independence. [2]
Independence and Mango Creek were counted as one in the 1980 census and spelled as Independence & Mango Creek. [3]
In 2002 Placencia and Settlement 124 were moved from the Toledo East Constituency to the Stann Creek West Constituency.[4]
